Thanksgiving week is a time to take a slow look around us with gratitude and appreciation for all the blessings we have. Of course, for most of us family, friends and health are at the top. And for me as an immigrant “living in the USA” it’s always right there, too.
We each have our personal list of blessings, but since this is a workplace column I thought it would be fun to list those things we are most grateful for about our work.
Some might be thankful “to work for an employer who values work/life balance”. For entrepreneurs it might be “I get to work with my best friend”. For those who endured unemployment it might just be “to have a good job and peace of mind”. For those in helping professions it might be “I get to make a difference in someone’s life”.
So, I’ll start first. I for one am self-employed, and in my work, these are the things I’m grateful for:
- Getting paid to do what I love.
- The Internet, which allows me to work from home with my dog, who’s good company, and always ready to listen.
- My husband’s job, for providing health benefits for my self-employed condition.
- The wonderful patchwork of colleagues, associates and assorted geniuses I collaborate and work with .
- The look on audience participants faces when they have that “Aha!” moment when I teach something that hits home.
- The clients who trust my judgment and counsel.
- My wise, witty and unpaid long-distance editor, life friend, and fellow HR pro
- My awesome readers. Every one of you that reads and appreciates the stuff I write. Thank you!
