From Readers

After my last Workplace Savvy column published in the Gainesville Sun, I expected a couple of kudos and well done’s from friends.

What I didn’t expect was the many heartfelt emails from readers expressing what the column brought them through the years. My heart trippled in size.

Thank you! Eva

Wishing you well in retirement

Eva, Your time, energy and talents have been greatly appreciated! Thank you for the 13 years of HR advice.

I didn’t know that you were a local Gainesville writer because your articles were always on point, authoritative, and came across as if you headed up a Fortune 500 company.

Glad to hear your works have been archived on your website for reference. Now that you have established yourself as a writer, your next series or book may just be about retiring, or not retiring. It’s difficult for professionals to just quit cold turkey!

Thank you

As someone with more than 30 years of management experience in Gainesville, I want to thank you and let you know how meaningful and helpful your column has always been for me. I read it religiously and appreciated all of your down to earth advice that made my job no less challenging, but a little easier through the years.

My upcoming 60th birthday will also make me a woman of a certain age, and I wish you the very best in whatever your next adventure is.

Many thanks Eva – be happy!

Thanks and best wishes

Eva, We met when you had jury duty a few years ago and think I read all 700 of your columns. I always put a high priority on doing HR right and your columns we’re helpful and I often shared them with my supervisors (at the courthouse when I was the Clerk of the Circuit Court.)

Thank you for all the good advice over the years and best wishes as you start your third act!

Last column

I just want to wish you well in your “third act”. My wife and I have read your column regularly, have enjoyed it and as retired managerial professionals invariably agreed with the counsel you offered. We will miss your column.

Thank you and much good luck in your future endeavors!

Gratitude and thanks

Dear Eva,

I read your column last week (as I do every time it is published!) announcing that today’s column would be the last. I had to take this moment in time to thank you for your writings.

I have learned so much from reading them. What I have always admired is your ability to clearly and succinctly state the truth about the HR issues of which you write but to also mix in compassion and kindness when appropriate.

700 columns! Wow! That is such an achievement. You will probably never know how many times your advice has been forwarded to others in order to give them answers and insight to dealing with people.

Enjoy any downtime you may take. You deserve it. And, again, thank you for the excellent writing you have undertaken in your mission of providing a much needed service to those of us who have been devoted fans.

Kind regards,

Thank You

Eva,

I was sorry to read in your column a few weeks ago that you would be “hanging it up”. Your column has been one of the pages I have not missed in the Monday issue of the Sun.

In my work, I led a small group (25 or so employees) for a number of years dealing with hirings, a few firings, SEP retirement plan, worker’s comp, unemployment comp and a lot else. I found a lot of help from the information you shared.

I will miss your column! I look forward to some new writing that you may choose to do in the future.

No, I didn’t know you are based in Gainesville. I thought New York or maybe Boston.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the great columns!!!

Though I am 70 and have been retired for about 6 years, I have enjoyed your columns each week in our local Ocala Star Banner( Ocala, Fl. ).  So much down to earth, human kindness /guidance. I will save your penultimate column as a continuing guide as I participate in volunteer activities and church leadership positions throughout the coming years.

Much good luck and happiness to you in your future

Thank you for your columns

Dear Ms. Del Rio,

For many years, I had the pleasure of reading your workplace column in the Gainesville Sun. I invariably enjoyed them — informative, thoughtful, and well-written — and simply wanted to thank you for them.

Good luck in the next chapter of your career.

Sincerely,

Thanks, will miss your column

Hi Mrs. Del Rio,

I’ve enjoyed your Workplace Savvy column in “The Gainesville Sun” and will miss it.  “The Sun” slips another notch!  I had no idea you were a local.  I cut out last week’s column and shared it with my team.  You’re right on the money about conflict and conflict resolution.  We receive very little training on that too.  It’s mostly OJT when it comes to that.

Thanks again and enjoy whatever the future holds for you.

Sincerely,

MG
